HMSV 2230 - Fundamentals of Addiction Counseling
Prerequisite: a grade of "C" or better in HMSV 1120, a grade of "C" or better in SOCY 1190; or permission of program chair. Students will learn about addiction theory, professional practice standards, prevention and treatment intervention skills, assessment and evaluation procedures, and social, political, economic and cultural influences in addiction counseling through active participation including observation, experiential activities, audio/video recording, written assignments, constructive feedback, and self monitoring. This course helps students prepare for the first level Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Certification.
